When is it Time to Talk to a Social Security Disability Lawyer?

There may be a point in time where a person realizes their medical condition is much too severe to continue working.  A person with such a severe medical disability may ask himself, “I cannot seem to get to work anymore due to my chronic pain, should I call a disability lawyer?”, or “ Is it time to apply for Social Security disability once I have missed weeks of work due to my severe depression?”.  The answer is fairly simple; yes.  Contact a personal injury attorney immediately for a free consultation and to seek out proper medical treatment.

If a disabled individual waits too long to apply for disability benefits they may lose out on both monthly financial benefits and medical treatment benefits.  However, applying too early can be counterproductive due to lack of sufficient evidence which is needed to meet the Social Security Administration (SSA) definition of disability.  In order to qualify for Social Security disability benefits, you need to have a medical condition that is expected to last at least 12 months or result in death, AND that results in an inability to work eight hours a day, five days a week.

It can be very confusing and unclear as to when a person should begin to contact a Social Security attorney and apply for disability benefits.  Regardless of the event that caused the disability, the injury or illness itself changes lives in an instant and for a lifetime.  If this has happened to you and it’s clear that you are not going to be in any condition to go back to work for at least 12 months, go ahead and contact a personal injury attorney to begin applying for Social Security Insurance (SSI) benefits.
